so anyway, my updating and word-giving here has been pretendous as of late. i guess i haven’t been on the internet much? i don’t know. anyway, i should definitely at least say that my new album of ambient guitar music is now available from the fine people at monstera deliciosa. it is entitled Please Be Quiet And Play Your Guitar, Vol. 1 and is 14 tracks of improvised loops, textures, and subtle melodies. influences range from the ambient sounds of stars of the the lid, brian eno and aphex twin to the melancholy melodies of the dirty three.

stay tuned, as it were, for my soon to be released ambient/noise album sleep patterns and the still-not-released travel ideas. some actual songs on this one!

well hi. while i continue making the packaging for the new album “travel ideas” (which i foolishly decided to hand-make again) i thought i would upload a taste of the upcoming meal, which you could think of as the “first single” if you like. it’s a song called mothers and children and i hope you like it. you can download it just below. hope you enjoy it, the album will be available very soon!

good morning. the new album Travel Ideas has been completed, but i’m still unsure of how i’m going to go about distributing this one, so in the mean time here’s a different new one, a free download album called Topography.



this was recorded in december and january, all with just a roland sh2 monophonic analog synthesizer. in an effort to avoid bad habits of over-layering synth sounds, all the pieces were improvised with just the synthesizer, a loop pedal and delay pedal (with digital reverb added afterwards). with no computer editing and layering, a more spontaneous and organic sound is (hopefully) created, any unintended sounds becoming part of the loop and in turn taking the piece in new unplanned directions.
for fans of brian eno, stars of the lid, and the ambient side of aphex twin.

a new mini-album called 4 violins is now available for free download. it’s a piece i’ve recently finished mostly for the sake of writing a “performed” piece, rather than music that comes about by studio recording and editing, as most of my recent work has been. there are also 2 old pieces for piano i wrote at uni included. download the whole .zip file here. last saturday i played some guitar at the gallery opening of Magic Mushroom Mould Mountain at ARThive in newcastle. i didn’t record any but i also didn’t delete the last loop i made on the loop pedal, so here it is for your enjoyment: #10 (The White Lodge)

roads is now available on iTunes. although if you’re purchasing in australian dollars, you’re better off getting it from cdbaby, as each track is $0.99US rather than $1.69AUS. the album as a whole is also about half the price on cdbaby. plus, i heard iTunes was funded by outerspace commie-nazi aliens.

so obviously i didn’t manage to do what i said i’d do, in regards to releasing 2 albums last saturday. i did receive several thousand death-threats as a result of depriving rabid fans of a sublime piece of art they had been promised, but rest assured, it was not a hoax. it will be done. let’s say, wednesday.

ok, i sort of forgot to finish off that album i said i was going to do. it’s almost done. i got sidetracked by making another album, which i’m planning to release at the exhibition on november 7th. it’s an album that i’ve been working on part-time all year: entirely guitar-made music, almost all with a single guitar recorded in one take (with a few pedals). i might keep the “double” theme going by releasing them both at once, just to be confusing. so: on november 7th i will release one physical CD album of guitar music, and one free digital album called “4 violins”.

oh, and i just found out that steve reich wrote a piece called “4 organs”, so in case you were wondering, “4 violins” is not a reference to that. though maybe it should be, given the reaction to his piece.
